Welcome to the online office of the Cameron County Tax Assessor-Collector
The Tax Assessor-Collector, elected by registered voters holds the Constitutional Office charged with duties and responsibilities mandated by State Statutes to assess and collect ad valorem tax accounts as identified and valued by the Cameron Appraisal District. The Cameron County Tax Office collects property taxes for 52 taxing entities (school districts, cities and special districts). This includes 16 municipalities, 5 school districts, 4 drainage districts, 10 special districts, and 16 others. In addition, acting as an agent for the State, the office issues license plates and registration stickers for over 296,000 vehicles registered in Cameron County, and handles approximately 70,000 motor vehicle title transfers each year.
The main Tax Office in Brownsville, along with six (6) branch offices in Harlingen, San Benito, Los Fresnos, Port Isabel, Rio Hondo, and La Feria are open Monday through Friday (excludes holidays) from 8:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. The two substations located within the City of Brownsville’s Police Departments Community Network Centers are open Monday through Friday (excludes holidays) from 8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. There are also twelve (12) motor vehicle subcontractors located throughout Cameron County; subcontractors are normally open 7 days a week during the regular business hours of the merchants’; courtesy booths. Transitioning to Regular Business
Effective Monday, May 4, 2020 – The Cameron County Tax Assessor-Collector’s Office will begin transitioning to regularly scheduled business for the general public. Customers will be allowed to enter lobbies following social distancing guidelines. A facial covering/mask will be required to be worn before entering a County building. Children will not be allowed on the premises and only customers having County business will be allowed to enter the lobbies. The following lobbies will be opened with a limited number of customers coming into the offices:
- Brownsville Main Levee Annex, 835 E. Levee St., Brownsville, TX
- San Benito Tax Branch Office, 1390 Expressway 83, San Benito, TX
- Harlingen Tax Branch Office, 3302 Wilson Rd, Harlingen, TX
- Los Fresnos Tax Branch Office, 745 W. Ocean Boulevard, Los Fresnos, TX
- Port Isabel Tax Branch Office, 505 Highway 100, Port Isabel, TX
- La Feria Tax Branch Office, 200 Industrial Way, La Feria, TX
The safety of our customers and staff remain the top priority as we begin assisting customers. It is strongly encouraged to conduct business via our alternative payment options including payments by mail and online services at www.cameroncountytax.org. In addition, four of our offices offer drive-through lanes for tax payments and vehicle registration renewals including Brownsville Levee located at 835 E. Levee St., Brownsville, TX, Harlingen Branch Office located at 3302 Wilson Road, Los Fresnos Branch located at 745 W. Ocean Boulevard, and Port Isabel Branch located at 505 Highway 100. Lastly, Drop-Off-Boxes can be used at the following locations, Brownsville Main Office (next to the motor bank on Levee St.), Port Isabel Branch Office and Los Fresnos Branch Offices.
