09 Apr: Cameron County Confirms Additional COVID-19 Cases
Cameron County has received confirmation of its second and third COVID-19 related deaths. The two patients were 91-year old and 93-year old females residing at Veranda Nursing Home and Windsor Atrium, respectively, in Harlingen. Unfortunately, this increases the total of COVID-19 related deaths in the Rio Grande Valley to five (5).

06 Apr: Public Notice That The First Amended Emergency Management Order With Mandatory Countywide Shelter In Place Remains In Effect
Today, April 6, 2020, Cameron County Judge Eddie Treviño, Jr. announced the extension of the First Amended Emergency Management Order with Mandatory Countywide Shelter in Place for another two weeks until Tuesday, April 21, 2020 at 11:59 p.m. This order shall remain in effect due to the increasing concerns of COVID-19 in Cameron County and is extended for the best interest of the general public, to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, and is in place for the protection of life during this global health pandemic of COVID-19.

06 Apr: Cameron County Confirms First COVID-19 Related Death
Cameron County has received confirmation of its first COVID-19 related death of a Cameron County resident. The patient was a 81-year old resident from the Veranda Nursing Home in Harlingen and had been hospitalized at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen. Unfortunately, this is the second COVID-19 related death in the Rio Grande Valley.

03 Apr: Free Trade International Bridge Hours of Operations
In light of the COVID-19 and binational efforts to reduce the immediate threats to life, public health, and safety of all, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Servicio de Administración Tributaria (SAT) in Mexico have modified the Free Trade International Bridge at Los Indios hours of operations for passenger vehicles and pedestrian traffic crossing to 6:00 a.m. through 4:00 p.m until further notice. Thus, passenger vehicles and pedestrians both, southbound and northbound will adhere to the same hours of operation, which is 6 am to 4 pm. The hours of operation for Commercial vehicles are to remain the same and will continue to conduct business as usual.

03 Apr: Cameron County Confirms Additional COVID-19 Cases
During today’s press conference, Cameron County Judge Eddie Trevino, Jr announced an additional nine (9) cases of COVID-19. The increase included seven (7) which are linked to the Veranda Nursing Home in Harlingen, consisting of 5 employees, one (1) 75 year-old patient from the facility and one (1) family member to an employee. This brings the total number of positive cases among employees at the nursing home to 9 of which 7 reside in Cameron County. One individual (an employee) is in the hospital and the rest are in self-isolation.

01 Apr: Cameron County Confirms Additional COVID-19 Cases
Cameron County Public Health has received confirmation of eleven (11) additional cases of COVID-19. The cases include seven (7) individuals from Brownsville between the ages of 9 to 46 years old with 4 females and 3 males, including a nine year-old child. Four (4) of the seven (7) individuals were linked to two previously reported cases, while two are travel-related and one is community transmission. The other four remaining cases include a 36 year-old and a 43 year-old male from Harlingen with one having reported travel and the other identified as community-transmission case. A 66-year old female from San Benito and 29 year-old male from Rio Hondo were also reported, both as community transmission cases. This brings the total to 37 cases of COVID-19 in Cameron County.

Beginning Mid-March, the U.S. Census Bureau began inviting all households around the Country to participate in the 2020 Census and make sure that every single person living in the Unites States is counted. This count is very important and crucial as it will determine the number of seats each state will hold in the U.S. House of Representatives, as well as influencing decisions about how hundreds of billions of dollars are allocated each year for the next ten years to local communities for vital services such as educational programs, healthcare, highways, roads, bridges, first responders and law enforcement.

30 Mar: Cameron County Confirms Additional COVID-19 Cases
Cameron County Public Health has received confirmation of six (6) additional cases of COVID-19. These include five individuals from Harlingen, including four males between the ages of 29 – 65 and one (1) 52 year-old female. With the exception of a 36 year-old male who is linked to a case previously reported, they are all travel-related. The 6th case is an 18-year old female from Brownsville who is a community transmission case as she did not report any travel outside of Cameron County nor contact with another known COVID-19 case. All of the cases are in isolation. This brings the total number of COVID-19 cases in Cameron County to twenty-six (26).

29 Mar: Cameron County Confirms Second Community Transmission Case
Cameron County Public Health has received confirmation of seven (7) additional cases of COVID-19, including a 43-year old male from Brownsville who reported no travel history outside of Cameron County nor any known exposure to another case. This is the second case of community transmission being reported in Cameron County.

27 Mar: Three Additional COVID-19 Cases Reported in Cameron County
Cameron County Public Health has received confirmation of three additional cases of COVID-19. The cases include a 27 year-old male from Brownsville, a 44 year-old male from Laguna Vista and a 59-year old male from Los Fresnos. All cases are traveled-related and are in isolation. These cases bring the total of COVID-19 cases in Cameron County to thirteen (13).

25 Mar: Cameron County Confirms Additional Travel Related COVID-19 Cases
Cameron County Public Health has received confirmation of three additional travel-related cases of COVID-19. The cases include a 20 year-old male from Rancho Viejo, a 21 year-old male from Brownsville and a 21 year-old female from Brownsville. All cases report having traveled out of the United States and are currently under home isolation. These cases are linked to the first travel-related case of Cameron County.

25 Mar: Cameron County Confirms Seventh COVID-19 Case
Cameron County Public Health has received confirmation that a 40 year-old male from Rio Hondo has tested positive for COVID-19. The individual is currently under home isolation. This is the seventh COVID-19 case in Cameron County. The individual did not report any recent travel outside of Cameron County.

21 Mar: Cameron County Confirms Four More Travel Related COVID-19 Cases
Cameron County Public Health has received confirmation of four additional travel-related cases of COVID-19. The cases include a 57 year-old female from Harlingen, a 20 year-old male from Brownsville, a 21 year-old male from Rancho Viejo, and a 20 year-old female from Brownsville. All cases report having traveled out of the United States. The individuals are currently under home isolation. The 57-year old female is not linked to either of the first two travel-related cases reported in Cameron County, while it appears the other three cases are related to the first travel-related case reported in Cameron County.

21 Mar: Extension of Covid-19 Declaration of Local Disaster for Public Health Emergency
Effective today March 21, 2020, Cameron County Judge Eddie Trevino, Jr., with the advice and consent of Commissioners' Court has ordered an extension of the COVID-19 Declaration of Local Disaster for the Public Health Emergency issued and signed on March 16, 2020. This order is issued as an emergency measure and pursuant to the 418 .108 et seq. of the Government Code and the Cameron County Emergency Management Plan to protect the significant threats to life, health and property due to COVID-19.

21 Mar: Cameron County Confirms SECOND Travel-Related COVID-19 Case
Cameron County Public Health has received confirmation of the second travel-related case of COVID-19. An 81-year old male from Harlingen tested positive after traveling to Florida. On March 19, the patient was tested due to symptoms of cough, congestion, and fever. Cameron County Public Health received laboratory confirmation March 20. The individual is currently under home isolation. This individual is not linked to the first travel-related case.

19 Mar: Cameron County Confirms First Travel-Related COVID-19 Case
Cameron County Public Health has received confirmation of the first travel-related case of COVID-19. A 21-year old male from Rancho Viejo tested positive after traveling to Ireland and Spain between March 5 – March 12. On March 18, the patient presented himself at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen with symptoms of fever and cough where he was tested. Cameron County Public Health received laboratory confirmation today, March 19.
